Ukhrul reports second Covid death

Ukhrul, May 13 2021:
A 64-year-old man succumbed to Covid-19 on Thursday morning here at Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH), marking the second Covid-19 death in the district.
The deceased Wepfupelo Wezah, a resident of Jessami village in Chingai block, was reportedly admitted to UDH on May 11 with severe symptoms.
Earlier on the same day, he was found Covid positive along with others from his village.
Sources said that the patient died around 4:15 am on Thursday at the hospital.
His mortal remains have been reportedly taken to his native place for the last rites around 9:40 am the same.
Incidentally, this marks the first Covid-related casualty in the district hospital.
The first Covid victim from the district was reportedly a patient of Shija Hospital in Imphal.
She was a 58-year-old resident of Shirarakhong village, also in Chingai sub division.
It may be mentioned that Jessami is one of the worst-affected villages in the district during the second wave of the pandemic with 23 more patients currently kept at Jessami Community Isolation Centre.
The entire habitation area of the village has been under containment zone since May 7.Meanwhile, another eight fresh cases have been found on Thursday, taking the tally of total active cases in the district to 123, according to the district surveillance office.
It said that the cases included 58 at the district's transit CCC at Phungreitang, 19 at UDH Isolation Ward, 23 at Jessami CIC and one at Shirarakhong CIC.
DSO also said that so far six cases have been referred out of the district.
Following the fresh detection, the district magistrate has declared another six residential areas in different parts of the district as containment zones.
