Churachandpur, May 07 2022:
Singhat MLA Chinlunthang and officials of PHED Churachandpur Division on Friday surveyed the feasibility for Construction of a water supply scheme with Tuitha (Khuga) river near Teikot village as the source for the people of Singhat and its surrounding areas.
Since time immemorial, Singhat has been plagued by acute shortage of water and successive attempts made by elected representatives from the assembly constituency in the past have been unfruitful apparently due to either its geographical location or lack of viable and practicable policy for the purpose.
During the survey, the MLA was accompanied by CSO leaders from Singhat besides Public Health Engineering Department, Churachandpur Division EE John Thanglienmang, AE L Paulungmuan; SOs Haukhansiam and Lalringdik.
The CSO leaders apprise the MLA that the main sources for obtaining drinking water and for other purposes for the residents of Singhat are few of the bore wells dug in the past but these bore-wells have not been enough to meet the requirements consequently forcing Singhat denizens to purchase water from private suppliers by paying Rs 100 per 300 litres.
MLA Chinlunthang on his part expressed concern over the plight of Singhat residents with respect to procuring water, and assured of making all possible efforts in collaboration with PHED and.
depending on availability of funds, for taking up necessary measures soon.
On the other hand, EE John Thanglienmamg informed that further in-depth study will be taken up in consultation with experts to determine as to whether it would be possible to materialise the project of constructing a permanent and reliable water supply scheme with Source from Tuitha (Khuga) river, while expressing hope that the result would turn out to be positive.
The Tuitha (Khuga) river near Teikot is about 5 km from Singhat proper and if the plan succeeds, direct benefits could be availed by residents of Singhat and its surrounding areas like Muvanlai, Tangpijol, Lhancha, Belpuan, Sumchin, Muallum, etc., he further observed.
Thereafter, the MLA inspected the condition of the on-going construction work of Sirighat Residential School and gave strict instructions to officials present for speeding up the work so as to ensure its early completion.
It may be mentioned here that the construction of the residential school was taken up in February, 2019 andas of now hardly 30 per cent have been completed.
