Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles under In spector General Assam Rifles (East) on Friday seized 915 gm of Heroin worth Rs 3.66 crore from near Sangkhumei village in Senapati district.
According to Assam Rifles, based on specific input about presence of drug smugglers doing illegal smuggling of drugs, troops of Maram Battalion launched a special operation on Friday late afternoon.
Two truck drivers namely Athary Ningkhalem and Hiipunii were apprehended during the checking as they were found in possession of 69 soap cases containing heroin, weighing 915 grams and worth Rs 3.66 crore in the market.
The Assam Rifles informed that a mobile check post was placed along NH-129A near Sangkhumei village, based on specific inputs, vehicles with registration number MN 06 LB 8559 and MN 06 LA 7034 heading to Dimapur were traced and stopped.
After detailed search for 30 odd minutes, the 69 soap cases filled with Heroin were recovered.
The suspected drugs and vehicles were confiscated and NCB Imphal informed immediately.
With proper liaison and coordination between the Assam Rifles and NCB, the NCB came at the location where it was confirmed that the seized consignment weighed 915 gm of heroin.
The recovered items were reportedly handed over to NCB Imphal and the accused produced before the magistrate on Saturday.
