Quinquennial Congress raises concern over contemporary issues

, MAR 27 (HNS): At a time when various contemporary issues are plaguing the Christian society, the MBC Quinquennial Congress devoted its day second to in-depth deliberation of the prevailing scenario during a slew of simultaneous workshops held at Main Hall, TNL Ground and other host churches at the District Headquarters Friday noon.
During the workshops held simultaneously at the main Hal, TNL Ground Rev Bonny Resu, general secretary APBF spoke on the topic of pastoral ministry challenges while Rev.Dr.Benjamin L Chan, area director, East Asia & India International Ministries, ABC-USA came up with the propriety of the Church to help the poor and the down-trodden.
At the same time, Rev Dr.Andrew Kim, director, Global Connections for Advancement, Korea, Rev Dr.Anthony Yeoh, council chairman Singapore Baptist Convention and Miss K Ela, director, Prodical Home, Dimapur raised concerns over the myriad challenges of Christian mission, youth mission and the menace of women and child trafficking during the workshops held at different host churches like Union Baptist Churches (UBC), Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC) and Viewland Baptist Church (VBC) respectively.
Rev Resu explained on the youthful life in the context of modern Christianity earlier during the morning service which was followed by ceremonious unveiling of TBCA Monument by Rev Dr.Chan.
Meanwhile, TBCA officials have expressed deep anguish over the frequent interruption of power supply during the ongoing mammoth event.
"Since power supply became unreliable long ahead of the program, we have equipped with generators and other equipments," rued Yarngam Muivah executive secretary while adding that it was very unfortunate that thousands of delegates attending the event have to cope with severe hardships due to frequent power cuts at their accommodations.
Reiterating appeal to the concerned authority to provide regular power supply during the congress, youth secretary MBC Mathotmi Vasha said that MBC had already requested the State government well ahead of the event.
Aimed at bringing together the Baptist family in the State, the congress event is being participated by more than 12, 000-strong delegates from 28 affiliating member associations out of existing 29 bodies of MBC.
