Thoubal, September 05 2022:
Director General of Police (DGP) Paotinmang Doungel along with DIG R-II Ningshen Worngam on Monday visited Thoubal district police HQ and presented a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh to Thoubal district police commandos for arresting 19 PLA cadres along with seizure of arms and ammunition, which were meant to be used to disrupt the recent Independence Day celebrations by planting explosive devices and also target non-local people in various valley districts of Manipur.
The cash reward was presented by the DGP to additional SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba, who with assistance from Thoubal CDO OC inspector N Sadananda, and head constable Telem Jiten Singh under the supervision of SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam conducted three counter-insurgency operations along with 16 Assam Rifles on August 13, 16 and 17 .
The arrested PLA cadres were found to be involved in two IED blast incidents that took place in May, namely the blast at Durga Mandir, Telipati in Imphal East on August 13 and another one at Khongjom Sapam, Thoubal on May 30; fhe recent killings of two non-locals at Kakching Wairi, Kakching and Uchol Chingjin, Andro Huikap, Imphal East on June 23 and July 8 respectively; and also in a recent grenade attack on non-local workers inside the Sawombung Bridge construction worksite at Sawombung Thongkhong on August 15 .
The arrested cadres are still in custody and investigation is going on to arrest other involved cadres/people.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP P Doungel informed that the arrest of the 19 PLA cadres by Thoubal District Police is not only a moment of pride for Thoubal police but also for the entire Manipur Police Department and the state.
He then recounted that the state government was under huge pressure with regard to some of the incidents particularly the killing of non-locals, recovering calls of the chief secretary of Bihar state government and also concerns whether the Manipuri citizens outside the state could face retaliation.
Thus, Thoubal District Police's success in rounding up the perpetrators has lessened the burden from the shoulder of the state government and the police department, and could be considered as a gift for Manipuri people residing/studying outside the state, he said, while lauding the district police.
He further lauded Thoubal district police for busting drug dens previously and exhorted the personnel to continue to give their best in serving the people.
