Shirui Festival bike rally flagged off

Animal Husbandry and Veterinary minister Khashim Vashum on Saturday flagged off a state-level bike rally at Awontang bus terminus in Ukhrul town.
The bike rally which was held as part of the ongoing 4th Shirui Lily Festival was organised by Ukhrul based Hao Riders' Association (HRA).
It was participated by more than 100 bikers from different districts of the state.
Flagging off the rally at around 9 am, the minister appreciated all the bikers for their enthusiastic participation in the celebration.
"This festival is not just for Tangkhuls, it is a festival of all the communities of Manipur.
Your participation has made this festival more meaningful", he said.
As a gesture of support and love to the bikers, minister Khashim gifted each of the leaders from different districts with T-shirts produced by Manipur State Transport (MST) in connection with the festival.
Earlier in the morning, he inspected the ongoing construction of the Academic block of Pettigrew College in Ukhrul and the college's main gate which are being executed at the estimated cost of Rs 14.9 crore under Manipur Minority and OBC Economic Development Society (MOBEDS).
During the inspection, he held a joint interaction with the college principal K Soreishang, vice principal Peter Horam, teaching staffers, contractor concerned and executive engineer of MOBEDS and local civil society organisations of Hunphun village.
Speaking to the gathering, Khashim, who is also a member of MOBEDS, urged the contractors and the EE to put in their best possible efforts in the construction.
"Everything you do in life leaves a legacy of its own.
The good deed will have its own legacy and the bad its own.
Let's all give our best shot to leave a legacy of growth, progress and prosperity", he said.
College principal Soreishang appraised the minister of existing grievances of the college pertaining to acute lack of teachers and classrooms.
He also assured of addressing the problems and encouraged the college authority to openly share their problems with him from time to time.
He said that he is taking keen interest in developing education sector in the district.
He informed that with this in view, he has upgraded the long neglected Tongou High School (THS) to a secondary school recently, among others.
He also urged the local CSO leaders to extend their best possible support and cooperation to the ongoing works in the larger interest of the students and the community as a whole.
Khashim also distributed MST T-shirts to college teachers, CSO leaders and MOBEDS officials.
