4th edition of Shirui Lily Fest draws to a colourful close

Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister Th Biswajit has categorically stated that the State flower Shirui Lily has united the people of Manipur.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the 4th Shirui Lily Festival as chief guest at Bakshi ground today, the Minister continued that the festival has created a common platform for the people from different places to come together and celebrate the festival in a spirit of oneness and joy.
He further said that Shirui Lily Festival is one of the most important festivals and the Government is trying to promote sustainable eco-tourism, and educate the need to conserve "Shirui Lily" which only grows at Shirui Kashong (Hill, the abode of Shirui Lily) .
The Minister appealed to the people of Ukhrul particularly Shirui villagers to play a key role in conserving Shirui Lily.
Meanwhile Animal & Husbandry and Transport Khashim Vashum who presided over the valedictory function thanked Chief Minister N Biren Singh for making the festival a grand celebration and highlighted the need to increase the fund allocated for the Shirui Lily Festival.
Tourism Director W Ibohal Singh urged the people of Ukhrul to stop seeking donations from the tourists in the name of festival as "it will reduce the credibility and popularity of the festival" .
The valedictory function organised by the Tourism Department was attended by Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba, MLAs - Kebi Devi, Leishiyo Keishing and Ramnganing Muivah among others.
