World Menstrual Hygiene Day observed across state

Imphal, May 28 2022:
Directorate of Health Services Manipur observed World Menstrual Hygiene Day on the theme of Making Menstrual a Normal phase of Life by 2030' at Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School on Saturday.
Health Services director Dr K Rajo attended as chief guest, and Public Health additional director Dr Tomcha Khuman as president, while Directorate of Education (S) additional director G Anita, MC additional director Dr Lalthari Hmar and ZEO Zone-I Sucheta Khumukcham were guests of honour.
In his speech, Dr Rajo said that menstruation is a natural part of life.
It is important for women to maintain hygiene during the monthly cycle so as to prevent any sickness or discomfort.
He then urged women to use quality sanitary pads, while stressing the need for young female students to be aware of menstrual hygiene, for any failure to do so could affect the reproductive organ.
This could adversely impact nation building and population, he remarked, while urging womenfolk to be extra careful of their health.
Ningol Club, Heirok also observed World Menstrual Hygiene Day along with a cycle rally at Heirok Part-Il on Saturday.
The observance was attended by additional director (health) Dr Sa-sheekumar Mangang as chief guest and Ningol Club president Khudong bam Sophia as president, while Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal Dr Y Nokul, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar, 1RDSO, Wangjing secretary Nonibala Narengbam and Medilane co-founder Dr Pinky were present as guests of honour.
Renowned film actress Bala Hijam attended as special guest, while senior journalist Sonia Sorensangbam, journalist Haripriya Tongbram and Langthabal Junior High School headmistress Ksh Bebili Nujaleima were special invitees.
Delhi University's Eley Sharma Phurailatpam and proprietor of SO Enterprises spoke as resource persons.
During the programme, the speakers stated that girls and women should not be embarrassed about getting periods, while also stressing the need for using sanitary pads so as to maintain hygiene.
The speakers also emphasised the need for public toilet facilities and providing sanitary pads in schools, colleges and workplaces/offices.
Later, sanitary pads were distributed to young girls who attended the observance.
On the other hand, Manipur State-Commission for Women organised a one-day awareness programpie on menstrual hygiene at Adimjati Shiksha Ashram Girls Hostel, Chingmeirong on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Commission chairperson in charge Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, members Lourembam Dayabati and T Chongshin Koireng, Imphal Hospital and Research Centre senior gynaecologist Prof Ch Manglem and dean of Directorate of Indian Regional Languages and Research, MIU Dr Thokchom Chandramani as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Thumlip Tiningpham informed that the Commission has been working tirelessly to protect and safeguard women in the state, in addition to organising various welfare programmes to empower them while Chongshin Koireng conveyed that women should not be embarrassed about menstruation and urged the people to be aware and understanding of this biological function of women instead of being discriminatory.
During the programme, sanitary pads were distributed to around 100 female students residing in the hostel.
