Stone pitched retaining wall of Kangla Pat to be renovated

Renovation of the stone pitched retaining wall of Kangla Pat in the heart of Imphal will be executed ahead of the upcoming Sangai Festival 2015. Kangla Pat will be refurbished ahead of the Sangai Festival, which begins November 20 every year, to attract tourists and visitors, Archaeology Department Superintendant Dinamani Singh told Hueiyen Lanpao on Sunday.
Kangla Fort is a very important heritage site of Manipur and hence redecoration of Kangla Pat is needed, he said.
Water from the moat is being drained out from the southern side of Kangla Fort to store it in the northern side, Dinamani said.
After pumping out the water, the renovation of stone pitched retaining wall will begin.
The moat bed will also be cleaned, he added.
The renovation work is being taken up under the sponsorship of Union Ministry of Tourism and its work agency is the State PWD, Dinamani informed.
