Imphal, April 29 2020:
Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam has proposed Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to set up State wise database centres for students from different parts studying in the respective States.
The Minister, speaking to a DIPR reporter today, said the proposal was put forward during the video conference meeting with Union Minister HRD Ramesh Pokhriyal, Minister of State for HRD, Sanjay Dhotre, Education Ministers and Education Secretaries of all the States yesterday.
Such a database system for students (school to university level) will greatly help Governments reach out to students in time of crisis such as COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
Since there is no such system at present, States are facing problems in tracking their native students who are staying at different cities.
The Minister also highlighted initiatives being taken up by the Department during the lockdown to the Union HRD Minister including the recent launch of an e-book platform (www.bosemebook.in) for students.
Meanwhile, efforts are on to broadcast educational content via AIR and local TV channels, he said.
Once lockdown ends and schools reopen, there may not be a summer vacation and classes are likely to be held on Sundays to cover syllabus, he said.
