With the Nationwide lockdown imposed to contain the COVID-19 entering 36 days, Civil Society Organisations, social workers, armed forces and more came out to help the general public at their capacity.
NPP office bearer provide rice
Continuing his goodwill service for the public amid the Nationwide lockdown, general secretary (admin) cum publicity secretary of National People's Party (NPP) Chungkham Bijoy distributed rice to widows, differently-abled persons and select poor families of Patsoi Assembly Constituency, today.
Chungkham Bijoy started distributing 5 kg of rice to select families/individuals of Patsoi AC since April 23 and it is said that he procured the rice from Guwahati from his end.
Speaking to media persons during a rice distribution organised by Patsoi NPP COVID-19 Relief Committee, Bijoy stated that he took up the initiative considering that many poor and underprivileged are being hit hard by the lockdown and the amount of rice arranged by the Government couldn't suffice the needs of larger families.
Lauding the Government for its effort in combating the new virus, he appealed to the State Government to enhance the testing of COVID-19 so as to ensure that there are no more victims of the pandemic in the State.
Thangal Students Union distributes
Senapati: The Thangal Students Union (TAJ) had distributed foodstuffs to selected villagers of Thangal Mapao village and Thangal Surung village.
S Meiduipa Thangal, president, TAJ said that the food materials were distributed to the villagers of the two remotest villages to show their concern towards the hardships during the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 .
The student body also expressed gratitude to R Gladys, Civil Supply Inspector; M James Thangal, Commando, OC, Special Unit; S Lunguiba Thangal, SDO, Willong and P Rocky, ADC Member, Mayangkhang DCC for generously donating towards the success of relief program.
On the other hand, the BJP, Manipur Pradesh had distributed masks and some refreshment to the Senapati Police Station and District Hospital, Senapati in respect of the frontline workers to contain the spread of Covid-19.Manibabu, BJP, Senapati in-charge, Thaikho Peter, District BJP President and district party workers were present at the distribution.
Romi Industries donates
Romi Industries has donated 1,000 face masks to DGP LM Khaute for distribution to people.
The masks were donated to the police for them to distribute to people who venture outside their homes without masks, said an official.
It may be noted that the industry has also donated masks to journalists recently.
CRPF doles out sanitary items, rations
109 Bn CRPF under the aegis of IGP Manipur and Nagaland Sector has distributed safety and sanitary items like surgical masks, hand sanitizers, hand gloves, hand wash and floor cleaner at Golden Poly Club, Mayang Imphal, Mayang Imphal Konchak and Makha Leikai under Civic Action Programme yesterday.
Awareness on COVID-19 and safety measures to be taken up in response were also raised during the distribution work which was assisted by volunteers of respective local clubs, said a statement of the Bn.
The local clubs also expressed gratitude to the Battalion for conducting such programme in wake of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, officers and jawan of 86 Bn under the initiative of Battalion Commandant Kalyan Singh, also extended edibles including rice potatoes, onion, salt pulses, mustard oil as well as soaps to migrant labourers affected by the lockdown.
The distribution programme through the fund contributed by the officers and jawans of the Battalion was conducted at Ibudhou Moirangpokpa community hall, Nagamapal Phougei Sangbam Leikai.
Local Police and IRB personnel also assisted the work and in maintaining social distance, said a statement of the Battalion.
The beneficiaries also lauded the initiative of the Battalion for assisting them with daily used items during such a difficult situation, it added.
AR distributes masks
Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) distributed masks and organised a sanitation drive at Yaingangpokpi Market, Imphal East on Apr 27.In a wake of lockdown due to novel coronavirus, with pro-active measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the battalion distributed 50 Masks to the local vendors at Yaingangpokpi market, said IGAR in a statement today.
As part of the event, the Civic Action Team also carried out a sanitization drive-by spraying chemicals/disinfectants at the market area and other common areas of Yaingangpokpi village.
The Mantripukhri Battalion has conducted similar drives at Nagaram, Koirengei, and Vaipai Veng villages before, it added.
On the other hand, Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) distributed RO drinking water to the locals of Laitonjam Makha Village under Bishnupur district, today, it continued and added that the team also handed over essential food items to the villagers.
