Intensified Mission Indradhanush to kick start from Oct 7

Seven North East States will launch Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI), a flagship immunisation scheme of the Government of India, in an intensified manner from October 7 .
IMI will focus on select urban areas and other pockets where coverage has been low .
This information was shared with journalists from seven North Eastern States (Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland) during a media sensitisation workshop on IMI for NE States organised by Regional Resource Centre for North East States (RRC-NE) and UNICEF at Guwahati today .
Four immunisation round will be conducted for 7 days in 187 districts-118 districts in 16 high priority States, 17 urban areas and 52 North Eastern districts-every month between October and January next year .
During the inaugural function, Director of RRC-NE Dr Bamin Tada highlighted the status of Routine Immunisation in the North East and added that of the seven North East States, five are below the National average of 62 percent with Sikkim having the highest coverage of 83 pc and Nagaland the lowest at 35 pc .
Health Specialist for North East Dr C Ravichandran UNICEF highlighted the importance of vaccination and discussed the objectives of IMI .
Health Officer for NE States, UNICEF, Dr Maulik highlighted the progress and achievement under immunisation campaign in India and NE States and mentioned the milestones achieved in the journey of immunisation since 1978 .
The media sensitisation workshop was attended by journalists, Editors, representatives from Directorate of Information and Public Relations and officials from the Health Department of all seven North East States.
