CCpur records 24 more COVID cases

CCpur, June 13 2020: Churachandpur today witnessed yet another record spike in COVID-19 cases as two dozen new cases, including four that were detected late last night added to the tally taking all positive cases from the district to 79.There are two recoveries during the same period to compensate the exponential growth which brought the recoveries to 22 and active cases to 57 .

A bigger tragedy was however averted by the local authorities as they managed to quell the demands made by inmates of Churachandpur College earlier today, to send them home on the ground that they have completed the required 14 days quarantine period.

As test results came in the evening, it turns out 9 of the 24 new cases are from among these inmates.

The doctors on duty there who stood their ground and kept asking the inmates to wait for the test results were commendable.

It is unthinkable what would have happened if the minor ruckus in the morning ended otherwise, added the source.

Four of the new cases that came today are from Gandhi Memorial HS, Molnom where nine cases have been detected.

They were included in today's report as the results came late last-night, post the 24 hours report timeline.

The nine cases from Churachandpur College, four from Gandhi Memorial and one case from a paid quarantine facility are all Delhi returnees while the remaining 10 cases; 3 from Dawn School, 4 from St John's, Gothol, and 3 from VK Tawna High School are all Haryana returnees.

The Churachandpur College incident today could very well serve as an eye opener as the latest protocol (dated 10 June) issued by the Health Dept said people who have completed their 14 days quarantine period will be discharged from the quarantine centres even if their test results have not been declared.

Had it not been for the local authorities here, conformation to the protocol could very well throw the entire State into jitters as it will mean discharging 10 positive cases to their home and sanctioning the risk of ten families being exposed to the virus.

It also raises the need to have a relook at the pace of tests conducted in the state.

Unless the Government finds a way to get the test results of those in quarantine during the 14 days window, it will continue to be at the risks of bumping on similar scare, but it may not be as timely as is today.

It may be noted here that Churachandpur alone has today collected 184 more samples that needs to be tested tallying up the total samples collected so far to 4210 .

However, results for as many as 1763 of them are still awaited.

The samples for Gandhi Memorial HS for instance were collected from the inmates on June 2 but their results were available on June 11, a good 9 days gap in between.

Another silver lining amidst the rain draped unkind news today is, a trader on seeing rain drenched policemen on duty reach-out to them with sets of brand-new umbrellas for them to take cover from the torrential rain that soaks the streets with choked and overflowing drain-water.

The Churachandpur Private School Association has also reached-out to several quarantine facilities including those at the far-flung areas distributing items for tea and snacks, and toiletries.
