With the family members, relatives and locals of Minuthong Hatta insisting that the corpse would be taken along the Kanglapat Road, which the police personnel objected to, a brief scuffle broke out leading to the securitymen bursting tear-gas near the Raj Bhavan.
The deceased, namely, Md Mujibur Rahman was among six persons shot dead by a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and troops of 12 maratha Light Infantry on September 8 night at Awang Khunou area, which is under Patsoi police station.
Mujibur Rahman was a Tata Sumo driver that operates on the Imphal-Moreh route.
His place of original origin is Loktak Project but was staying at Golapati.
Contrary to the combined security team claiming that Rahman was killed in the September 8 encounter, family members as well as the Pangal Students' Organisation had been maintaining that the victim was an innocent civilian.
The student body had even imposed a 24 hour general strike on September 11 to protest the killing besides declining to claim the corpse till yesterday.
having reached an agreement with State Government representatives last evening and on completion of post mortem at RIMS morgue today, Rahman's corpse was being taken to Golapati for the last rites in a five vehicle convoy but was stopped by security personnel at near Congress Bhavan, BT road.
As the protestors surged past the initial police barricade and proceeded along the Kanglapat road police teams burst tear-gas on the eastern side of Johnstone higher Secondary School.
Five persons suffered mild injuries in the melee after which the vehicle convoy reversed and moved towards Golapati via MG Avenue.
Meanwhile, bodies of rickshaw puller Md Tomba (26) of Mayang Imphal Konchak and Angoubam Oken (36) of Langol have also been claimed by the respective families after the post mortem examination at RIMS morgue.
In denunciation against slaying of Md Tomba, rickshaw pullers today took out a rickshaw protest rally from Pishum upto Wahengbam Leikai.
Body of another person killed in the same incident at Awang Khunou is still laying at the mortuary.
The deceased seems to be a non-local.
Meanwhile, protest demonstration was held today at Konthoujam against the incident of six persons being slain by security force personnel on September 8 night at Awang Khunou.
The protestors put up banners and raised slogans against the shooting incident.
They also clarified that L Joy has nothing to do with the incident.
