Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has felicitated national level award winners in the field of indigenous arts of the state today at the Government Dance College hall here.
The occasion was graced by Arts and Culture Director, Kh Sarojini as the chief guest.
Chairman of Thang-ta syllabus committee, Padmashree N Khelchandra was the president while Director of JNM Dance Academy, Dilip Mayengbam was the guest of honour.
The award winners who were felicitated today included Padmashree Award winner in Thang-ta, G Gourakishore, Sangeet Natak Academy award winner in Thangta L Heramot, and Sangeet Natak awardee in Meetei Pung, N Ibobi.
They were presented a shawl each.
Chief guest of the function, Kh Sarojini said all sections of the people should involve in the promotion and preservation of two significant art forms of the state � Thang-ta and Meetei Pung.
She said the government is ready to extend possible help for the promotion of the art forms.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilip Mayengbam said there is a need to open a separate directorate for Thang-ta in order to promote the arts.
He said the government should acknowledge the efforts of several organisations for the promotion of Thang-ta.
