Imphal, September 13, 2009:
Without respite numerous and unusual forms of the Apunba Lup sponsored movement against the chief minister of Manipur in the wake of the July 23 fake encounter is continuing.
Apart from setting ablaze of CM's effigies, sit-in-protest was staged at Canchipur Tampha Bazar, Sekta Makha Leikai, Loushangkhong and Huidrom Natumching Makhong today.
While some sections of the Apunba Lup, a conglomerate of many civil organisations in Manipur, have taken an initiative for the intervention of the divine power so as to make 'fall' Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and State Director General of Police (DGP) Y Joykumar from their respective post, the volunteers of the Lup started making a drive against 'rental shops' from renting their materials to the functions and programmes involving MLAs, Ministers, the Chief Minister and the DGP.
The Apunba Lup units have been making pilgrimages to various worship places and have been offering prayers to seven local deities so that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and DGP Joykumar 'fall' from their respective post.
It is pertinent to note that the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has been boycotting educational intitutions from holding classes demanding the resignation of the state chief minister saying that Ibobi Singh should be held responsible for the July 23 fake encounter.
Meanwhile, the Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has warned that it would intensify the ongoing mass movement under the aegis of the Apunba Lup.
In this regard, the MSF said that its prime mode of agitation would be to make the Government offices paralyse.
It is worth noting that that the Apunba Lup had already announced not to succumb to any pressure while agitating unless its goal is achieved.
It has become routine now that in one locality or the other, the locals hold sit-in-protest over the July 23 killing demanding the resignation of the state chief minister.
The Apunba Lup, a conglomerate of several civil organisations, has already stated that the judicial inquiry is not necessary as the Delhi based magazine had exposed everything to the open and that nothing is left to be investigated.
The Apunba Lup appealed the public not to have any faith on the Inquiry Commission and also urged the people not to co-operate the Commission.
It has been quite for sometime now school children have been making human chains with placards infront of their respective institutions demanding the resignation of the State Chief Minister.
The police routinely disperse these school children on daily basis.
Effigies of the Chief Minister have also been set on ablaze everyday in different localities for the same reason.
