Imphal, November 27 2021:
In the continuing drive to detect non-locals without ILP passes, volunteers of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) detected 46 non-locals staying in rented accommodations in Uripok Tourangbam Laikai on Saturday and all of them have been handed over to police.
Speaking on the sidelines of the verification process held at Uripok Tourangbam Laikai community hall, JCILPS convener BK Moirangcha informed that the committee launched a drive to detect non-locals who do not possess ILP passes and the first such drive was conducted on Saturday at Uripok Tourangbam Laikai.
During the drive conducted house-to-house in coordination with Uripok Tourangbam Laikai Welfare Organisation, around 500 non-locals staying in rented accommodations of the locality were verified.
Among them, 48 non-locals were found without renewing their ILP passes or without any document.
Among the remaining 460 non-locals, only nine were found possessing valid ILP passes while the remaining 451 were found possessing token issued by DC after they applied for ILP passes, he said.
Expressing concern over non-possession of ILP passes by non-locals despite implementation of ILP system in the state for nearly two years, BK Moirangcha said that the task of the government is being done by JCILPS and it was very unfortunate that many non-locals were found staying in Imphal area despite presence of huge security personnel.
This has raised a big question as to whether there is a big loophole in ILP pass issuance or whether security personnel fail to initiate necessary action, he said and urged government to look into the matter seriously.
He then urged village authorities to check possession of ILP pass whenever a non-local enters the village.
Meanwhile, Uripok Tourangbam Laikai Welfare Organisation appealed to rent owners of the locality to verify non-locals including possession of ILP passes before accommodating any non-local and the organisation will not be responsible for any consequences when non-locals were found staying without valid documents during surprise drive conducted by JCILPS and subsequent arrest by police.
