Customs, CDOs seize 10 kg opium; smuggler flees

Anti-smuggling unit of the Customs Division Imphal seized 5kg opium from a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle along Imphal-Ukhrul road but the man (smuggler) who drove the vehicle man aged to escape.
According to a statement of Customs Division Imphal assistant commissioner HL Songate, the anti-smuggling unit recovered 5kg opium from Mahindra Scorpio grey (NL 01H 9395) near N Molhoiphai village along Imphal Ukhrul road at about 11am on Thursday.
The man who drove the vehicle could not be nabbed as he abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.
The seized opium would worth around Rs 10,60,000, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a team of Bishnupur district commando arrested two individuals along with 5 kg of opium from Keinou Thongthak Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district on Wednesday around 4.30 pm.
The two individuals have been identified as Nongthombam Premjit (45) son of late Biren of Terakhongsangbi Wahengbam Leikai but presently staying at Tingkai Khullen Kangpokpi and Satminlen Ki9pgen (24) son of Kaikam Kipgen of Loivol Khullen.
Police sources said that the duo was intercepted by the CDO team during a frisking operation carried out in Keinou Thongthak Maning Leikai area.
The two along with the seized opium have been handed over to Bishnupur police station for further legal action.
