Imphal, March 14 2022:
While terming the arrest of his 11 workers and supporters including a post-natal woman from his Kshetri Awang Leikai residence on Monday by a police team without giving prior information as a breach of privilege and violation of MLA's protocol, newly elected Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan has submitted a privilege motion to Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary and demanded-necessary action against the involved police team.
Addressing media persons at his residence late Monday evening, Noorul Hassan said that a police team raided his house and arrested 11 people without giving any prior information.
"As the raid was carried out while Manipur Legislative Assembly session was still in progress, the action carried out by police was a breach of my privilege as I was in the House.
Video footage of the incident was shown to caretaker CM N Biren and former minister Th Biswajit after family members forwarded the same to me through mobile phone and urged both of them to take some action.
However, caretaker CM told me to discuss the matter after the end of oath taking ceremony," he added.
According to Noorul Hassan, his house is not solely for him but also for his elder brother who is serving as joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, and his MCS younger brother and his wife.
His younger brother is serving as additional deputy commissioner in Assam.
"However, the police team raided my house without any warrant and violating MLA's protocol," he said, adding the action carried out by the police team was excessive and all those arrested by the police team were innocent people.
He also said that the matter has been apprised to the ministry concerned, PMO and NPP national president Conrad Sangma and urged them to take necessary action.
