Imphal, September 04 2022:
Governor La Ganesan and chief minister N Biren Singh extended their heartiest greetings and best wishes to the teaching fraternity on the occasion of Teachers' Day, celebrated every year on September 5 .
In his message, Governor Ganesan said Teachers' Day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the birthday of Dr S Radhakrishnan and honour the teachers for their precious contributions towards the society and the country.
Stating that the celebration is also a tribute to Dr S Radhakrishnan, a scholar, statesman and a respected teacher, who shaped many minds and served India, the Governor stressed that teachers should instil in children values of sacrifice, tolerance, pluralism, understanding and compassion.
In his message, CM N Biren said that the progress of a society depends much on the quality of its teachers.
"It is not uncommon to find students singling out that one teacher amongst many others in any school or college environment, as the most popular teacher.
They become role models for the young students to emulate.
This is on account of that teacher's ability to connect with the needs of the student for love, care and attention," he observed.
Stating that the greatest values of honesty, integrity, excellence, hard work and perseverance can only be imbibed when they are reflected in the words and acts of the teacher, Biren maintained that no person in the teaching profession can shy away from moving to the most remote interiors for the purpose of moulding the most disadvantaged young minds.
The chief minister then called upon the teaching community to reflect upon the challenges of their profession and face those challenges head-on, stating that it is a profession noblest of all and they must live up to the expectations of society for guiding and mentoring the young children, and nurturing their minds.
