Five JD (U) MLAs formally join BJP

Five Janata Dal (United) MLAs, who merged with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party formally joined the saffron party in the presence of party president JP Nadda at the National capital on Sunday.
The five JD (U) MLAs who have formally joined the BJP today are Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan, Tipaimukh AC MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, Jiribam AC MLA Md Achab Uddin, Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arun-kumar and Chura-chandpur AC MLA LM Khaute.
JD-U won six seats in the 60-member State Assembly in the recently held Assembly elections while the BJP secured a majority with 32 seats.
The lone JD (U) MLA Md Abdul Nasir is yet to comment about the changing political landscape in Manipur though it is speculated that he too might join the saffron party.

In a Facebook post, JP Nadda said, "I welcome the five JDU MLAs from Manipur into the BJP family.
All of you possess qualities that will greatly benefit our party.
I am certain you will all serve the Nation diligently as members of the BJP & play your role in the development of the country" .
The post was also shared by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The reception ceremony of the five MLAs was also attended by BJP State unit president A Sarda Devi and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Notably, the JD (U) and Congress have announced that they will move a Court regarding the merger of five JD (U) MLAs with the ruling BJP as it was 'unconstitutional' .
In a statement issued on Friday, the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat said that the merger of five JD (U) MLAs with the BJP under the tenth schedule of the Constitution has been accepted.
Meanwhile, JD (U) chief Rajiv Ranjan Lalan Singh said on Saturday that the merger was done by BJP using money power.
The latest political developments come weeks after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar dumped the BJP and stitched an alliance with RJD and Congress to form a 'Grand Alliance' Government in Bihar.
