As a part of its rigorous drive to root out drugs and other narcotic substances from the soil of the state, the All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) Bishnupur District Council during its anti narcotic drives conducted at various places within the district including Bishnupur market, Ningthoukhong market, Moirang Khamnu market, Moirang Ibudhou Thangjing Haraopham Mamang, Moirang College Gate, Moirang Khunnou and Phubala from May 14 till May 23 last caught a total of 18 persons out of which 11 of them were liquor vendors and brewers while 7 of them were vendors of various other narcotic substances including Zarda, Khaini, Talaab and Meetha leaves.
A release of AMADA signed by the Secretary Publicity and Propaganda of AMADA head office, K Hemabati Chanu identified the apprehended persons as Moirangthem Ibemnungshi (55) of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Haojam Nirmal (47) of Ningthoujam Kha, Sagatpam Okendrajit (38) of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, RK Landhoni (45) of Ningthoukhong Oknarel Leikai, Moirangthem Sushila (33) of Moirang Leijubam Leikai, Konjengbam Premila (30) of Ibudhou Thangjing Mamang, Salam Sangita (35) of Moirang Khunou Khongnang Makhong, Ahanthem Raj of Moirang Khunou, Mairembam Subita (45) of Moirang College Gate, Konjengbam Sangita (25) of Moirang Phairenbam Leikai, Laishram Sushila (65) of Phubala Awang Maning Leikai, Konthoujam Radhapyari (37) of Ningthoukhong market, Moirangthem Marcony (28) of Ningthoukhong, Konthoujam Gambhini (35) of Ningthoukhong Ward no 12, khundrakpam Memsana (50) of Konthoujam Ward no 2, Konsam Kamala (25) of Ningthouknong Ward no 2, Takhelmayum Yaiphabi (35) of Ningthoukhong Ward no 13 and Thokchom Premabati (45) of Ningthoukhong Kha Leikai.
The statement further stated that 100 litres of liquor, 500 pieces of Talaab, 4 pieces of Golden Khaini box, 50 pieces of Kaka Khaini and 300 pieces of Meetha leaves were seized by AMADA from the possession of the above mentioned 18 persons.
All the seized substances were blazed and reduced into ashes in front of the public at Ningthoukhong market on May 23 while the apprehended persons were released after arriving into an amicable resolution with AMADA.
In another incident, a person using No-4 drug who stole 80 Kgs of 12mm iron strip from a house near NCC office at Thangmeiband on May 22 last has been nabbed and surrendered to the office of AMADA head office by the owner of the house today.
Another person succeeded to flee said the house owner.
The caught thief who is also using No-4 drug has been identified as one Makakmayum Juma Khan (34) a resident of Mayang Imphal Bengoon, Konchat Makha while the person who fled away has been identified as one RK hailing from Kairang.
The press statement of AMADA asked the RK of Kairang to turn up at the head office of AMADA for mutual settlement within May 26.Juma Khan has been surrendered to his family member after advising not to commit such crime in future.
