A frightening pattern has been emerging in all this�there has been more intense heat waves and for longer period in this decade than the last two decades.
In March-April this year,large swathes of India had been reeling under a searing heat wave.People were dropping dead,and rising temperatures were playing havoc with the air circulation patterns that control heat an cause rain.

Over 70 people were reported dead in Orissa due to sunstroke,with mercury soaring to 46 degrees centigrade in April in some cities while "abnormal" dry spells and dust storms swamped Assam's Guwahati city besides creating an unwanted heat in neighbouring Manipur as well.
Amidst this in a move to highlight the issue of environmental degradation in different parts of the state as part of their as part of their month long environment day observation under the theme 'Remembering the Mother nature Month",have conducted a tree plantation in and around Langol hill range near Imphal on Sunday.
Around 500 different varieties of trees available in the region were planted by nearly 50 volunteers of this an unusual team of professionals, comprising of government employees, businessmen, media persons, pharmacist and doctors etc in association with the representatives of Wildlife and Habitat Protection Society (WAHPS) Manipur which have been preserving over 200 species of plants and 18 bamboo varieties at Punshi Lok maru of the Langol hill range.
The move to plant more trees along the hill ranges in and around Imphal city in the wake of the global warming was initiated after a day long deliberation on environment issues during a seminar on May 8 last.
"We are not environmentalist yet we love to plant more trees for our future as we believe it would bring down the heat we're facing in our city one day",Yumlembam Ratikanta(Boy),a RRM member and a resident of Wangkhei in Imphal east district told this reporter while taking part in the plantation on the slope of Langol hill range near here.
Unlike the past,people in Imphal have been witnessing the sudden changes in the climatic condition of the city as well as it's down town areas due to global warming.
Many farmers in the state particularly in Imphal East district couldn't cultivate the seasonal vegetables in their respective fields due to scanty rainfall.
