Manipuri dance, martial arts to be showcased in SA

A 12-member cultural team from Panthoibi Thang-Ta and Jagoi Sindam Shanglen, Moirang has been selected by Indian Council for Cultural Relations to showcase Manipur Dances and Martial Arts in South Africa.
The team has been sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
In a tete-a-tete with Hueiyen Lanpao, Yumkhaibam Neha, who is just 12 years of age and is among the 12 selected artists, informed that they would be leaving Imphal for South Africa tomorrow.
The team will be performing solo as well as group dances and martial arts on the occasion of Independence Day celebration of South Africa which falls on August 12.Neha further informed that she had also earlier been selected for a tour of five countries including Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Mauritius and Jambia.
She will be performing in both individual and group events.
Laishram Rajen, teacher of Neha, also informed Hueiyen Lanpao that "Neha is gifted artiste and has showed exceptional talents in various forms of Manipuri dances as well as other martial arts including Thang-ta, Leiteng and Thanglong Chatpa, etc." It is said that Neha has given various performances in different parts of the country since the age of 4 years and she has received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in 2008.She had also received gold levels at various National level Dance and Thang-Ta competitions.
