More female suffering from NCD than male: Dr Rajo

Health screening of 1,41,519 people in 338 villages have been completed under Chief Minister's Health for All (CMHA) scheme launched on October 14, 2021 and the scheme is continuing at 155 Health and Wellness Centres in 613 villages across 16 districts of the state.
This was disclosed by director (health) Dr K Rajo while giving the present status of CMHA during a press conference jointly organised by directorate of health services and State Health Society at State Ophthalmic Cell office, Lamphel.
According to Dr K Rajo, chief minister N Biren launched CMHA for the first time in the North East region with Tamogna Enterprises Private Limited as implementing agency.
The main objective of the scheme is to provide quality health care service to every citizen of the state by conducting health screening at their door steps, he explained and appealed to people to avail benefit of the scheme.
He also said that the scheme has provision for free treatment by identifying 10 different Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) diseases.
Any person found suffering from any of the 10 NCDs is being given follow up care by informing the respective Health and Wellness Centre, CHC and PHC while specialist and MO stationed at Common Command Centre of the scheme at medical directorate may provide treatment through tele-medicine of e-sanjeevini.
As per the WHO (2015) and ICMR (2016) reports, NCD accounted for 60 percent of deaths while National Family Health Survey 2019-2020 mentioned that 26 percent of women and 37 percent of men in Manipur have high blood pressure (BP) problem while 19 percent of women of the state and 19 percent men have diabetes.
The report also mentioned about high NCD in the state, Rajo said, adding that changing lifestyles is one of the factors for high prevalence of NCD.
CMHA nodal officer Dr Y Premchandra, who also attended the press conference, said that diabetes and hypertension are being given special emphasis in the ongoing screening under CMHA.
Of the 1,41,519 screening done so far, 54,896 people were found to be suffering from hypertension, which accounted for 38 percent of the total screened people and 13,077 of them have been confirmed of suffering from NCD diseases, he added.
Among those screened, 53,445 people were found to have high blood sugar level accounting for 37 percent and 10,778 (7.6 percent) of them are confirmed suffering from diabetes.
He also said that the screening under the scheme is continuing with special emphasis on mental health, kidney and heart diseases with more females found suffering these diseases than males.
The press conference was also attended by additional director (health), State Mission Director, project director and Tamogna Enterprises Pvt Ltd representative.
