MU to host live show of Transit of Venus

The Department of Physics, Manipur University has made elaborate arrangements for observation of the extremely rare event of Transit of Venus across the face of the Sun in the early morning of June 6 from 5:30 am to 9:30 am, on the roof top of the building of Central Library of the varsity.
Interacting with Hueiyen Lanpao in this regard, Prof K Yugindro, Coordinator of SAP, Department of Physics, MU informed that many costly equipments have been installed in the department of Physics.
These equipments were brought from USA under UGC funding.
He further informed that as a part of the observation programme, there will be a live show of the Transit of Venus through the state of the art 12 inches Meade LX200GPS telescope fitted with the powerful Coronado SolarMax II 90mm Hydrogen alphafilter and also by using the Projection Method employing a pinhole camera, a binocular or a small telescope.
There will also be a night watching programme for observation of planets, constellations, galaxies, nebulae etc, in the night of June 5 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, Prof Yugindro added.
