Imphal, June 04 2012:
With the State Education Minister declaring that all students applying for admissions to class XI in TG Higher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School and CC Higher Secondary School in Imphal will be admitted, the Principals of the three schools are in a dilemma as large number of students rushing in for admission.
On the other hand, the result of the admission test to TG Higher Secondary was declared today.
Accordingly 200 students have been selected for admission in Arts Stream and another 206 students in Science Stream while an additional 1000 students seeking admission in Science Stream and 300 students in Arts Stream are waiting to be admitted.
After the Minister formally announced that all students applying for admission to the three schools would be admitted, a large number of students have been applying for admission.
With excessive number of students waiting at the doorsteps, the Principals of the three schools are not knowing about to do.
.Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, T Pramodini, Principal of TG Higher Secondary School informed that although the announcement of the Education Minister had been known through media, yet there has been no formal letter from the authority concerned to the School authority in connection with admitting all the students.
She pointed that that recently there was an instruction from the Education Department stating the student enrolment in each of the three Higher Secondary Schools should be 220 students.
But this was not possible due to certain difficulties.
So, if the decision of the Education Minister is to be complied with then there would be still another 1000 more students to be admitted.
The Principal explained that enrolment of 1300 students in the science stream would be a tough job considering shortage of teachers, classrooms, science equipments, etc.
First of all, the whole thing is to be looked into by the School Committee to decide on whether or not to enroll the left over students in consultation with the Government.
The same problem is being faced in Arts Stream as well with over 300 students waiting in line for admission.
However, there is no problem in Commerce Stream as the number of students applying for admission is much lesser than the intake capacity, she added.
Principal of CC Higher Secondary School, S Indrani also informed that the number of students applying for admission in the school is much higher than the intake capacity of the school.
The state government needs to come up with a specific strategy to solve the problem, she said.
As for John Stone Higher Secondary, since the intake capacity of students is much higher than the other Secondary Schools, the number of left out students is around 100 only.
This could be easily solved with the intervention of the state government, said a teacher of the school.
