Three held in drug case; AR seizes brown sugar

Imphal, January 29 2023:
Imphal East district police arrested three persons on Sunday from Imphal International Airport in connection with a drug case registered at Porompat police station.
The arrestees have been identified as Md Abash (22) son of Md Munish Khan and Md Rahman (34) son of Md Rahmat, both from Kshetrigao Makha Leikai, and Md Tajiur Rahman (22) son of Md Tahibur Rahman of Keikhu Awang Leikai.
According to police, the trio was arrested on Sunday around 2 pm from the Airport's departure terminal in connection with a drug case registered under IPC section 147/148/149/353/427 at Porompat police station.
It may be mentioned that during an operation conducted by Imphal East district police at Kshetrigao Yumkhaibam Makha Leikai to arrest some individuals in connection with the drug case from a house, a clash broke out between the police and the locals consequently preventing the police from carrying out their duties.
The windshield of a police vehicle also got smashed in stone pelting.
Subsequently, another case was registered at Porompat police station and searches continued to round up the accused persons.
Meanwhile, Modi Battalion of IGAR (South) apprehended an individual with 2.918 kg brown sugar worth Rs 5.83 crore on January 27 and another consignment of the same narcotic drugs on Saturday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), based on specific input, troops of Modi Battalion along with team of Tengnoupal police station set up a mobile vehicle check post in Larong Khunou village in Tengnoupal district which led to the seizure of 2.918 kg brown sugar found contained in 70 soap cases apart from nabbing of the individual.
The contraband was hidden in the fuel tank of EECO Van No TEMP A 92553.The apprehended individual along with brown sugar and vehicle has been handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further legal proceedings.
On Saturday too, Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (South) had seized 525 gram of brown sugar worth Rs 1.05 crore at Khudengthabi village in Tengnoupal district.
The PRO informed in a release that an operation was launched at Khudengthabi village to prevent smuggling of contraband items during which 525 gram of brown sugar in 12 packets was recovered.
The recovered narcotic drugs have been handed over to Moreh Police for further legal proceedings.
