Imphal, August 22 2015 :
The aged-old stone monumental inscriptions of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Nar Singh at 1st Manipur Rifles complex, Haying Khongban in Imphal are now in a dilapidated condition and that it is on the brink of collapse.
Meanwhile, the State Archeology Dept is waiting for the experts from Archeological Survey of India to restore the historical monuments.
It is said that the Manipur State Archeological Department has been protecting both the monuments since 1980 .
In the past when Manipur was an independent kingdom, Manipuri soldiers used to pray and seek blessings from the sacred monuments before going to wars.
The originalities of both the monumental inscriptions are still kept intact, said superintendent of Manipur State Archeological Dept, Dinamani.
But this time, the stone inscriptions have suddenly started fractured on the back side since the inscriptions were installed in a lower place originally, said Dinamani.
He, however, said the monuments are now on the brink of collapse and that the department is seeking help from experts from the Archeological Survey of India for refurbishing them.
The monumental inscription of Gambhir Singh was installed in 1928 while that of Nar Singh in 1843 .
