Imphal, August 22 2015 :
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has termed the August 18 Moreh violent incident as unfortunate and said the failure of the both Central and State forces to tackle the situation on time was the apparent reason behind the great loss of properties in the clash between the two communities.
A statement of the committee on Saturday urged the Manipur Government to take proper steps so as to prevent such a violent flare-up in future.
It called on the Government to pay compensation to the victims of the incident at the earliest.
UCM stated that the movement on Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) is meant for all communities of the State and added that people from both the valley and hills will equally benefit from this legislation.
The Committee said the hill brethren should not feel suspicious on the ILPS demand and added that UCM feels that some individuals or groups are spreading wrong ideas about the people's demand.
The Kuki brethren are now part and parcel of Manipur, albeit the group that arrived late in the State, UCM asserted.
It urged upon all concerned organizations and individuals to refrain from making irrational statements about the Kuki group through the media and other means.
The committee warned that it will counter further acts of communal incitement and provocative statements through the media and social networking sites.
UCM also appealed to Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) which is spearheading the ILPS movement to exert maximum efforts to bring an amicable solution to the complexities surrounding the issue by sitting together with the parties or groups which is opposing the stir.
The statement, meanwhile, condemned the killing of one S Walunglow by suspected armed cadres of NSCN (IM) at the village of Aimol Ngairong under Chandel district on Saturday.
UCM will always stand against any attempt by bigger communities to assimilate smaller groups in the State, the statement pledged.
The committee further shared the anguish of the bereaved family of the victim.
