A 45-year-old man has been shot dead by suspected armed cadres of NSCN-IM for opposing attempts to co-opt Aimol tribe within Naga family at Aimol Ngairong village under Teng-noupal police station of Chan- del district at around 4.30 am today.
Even media persons were not allowed to enter the village by the security persons after the incident.
Aimol Ngairong village is located 2 kms away to the North of Pallel police station.
Soon after the incident, a combined team of Assam Rifles and Thoubal district police commandos rushed to the village and conducted a search operation to nab the NSCN (IM) cadres.

According to villagers, NSCN (IM) and allied outfits have been pressing the villagers of Aimol Ngairong, Ai- mol Khullen, Aimol Kho-domphai, Aimol Chandon- pokpi and Aimol Unapal to join the Naga fold.
Panic gripped these villages since the past few days as suspected NSCN (IM) cadres have been intimidating the villagers on the issue.
Today at around 4 am, around 20 NSCN-IM cadres equipped with sophisticated weapons in combat dress cordoned off Aimol Ngairong village.
Later, they pulled out S Walunglua Aimol alias Manglun (45) s/o ( L ) Wanoilua Aimol from his house and shot a bullet at his right forehand.
After he died on the spot, the cadres not only resorted to indiscriminate firing for about 30 minutes, but also exploded two hand grenades at the house of Walunglua's elder brother, Lungwakhi Aimol.
It is yet to be ascertained how many persons suffered injuries in the two blasts and indiscriminate firing, said a villager at JNIMS morgue.
According to the wife of the deceased Chinneilhing Aimol, her husband was shot dead by NSCN-IM cadres after he was forcefully taken away from their house just because her husband denied to join the Naga fold and raised voice to let the Aimol people live as Aimols.
She also appealed to the State Government to take immediate action against NSCN-IM according to the law of the land and give befitting punishment to the involved cadres.
She also questioned why NSCN-IM is forcing them to merge with Naga tribe.
Sinheilung also urged the Naga outfit to stop forcing them.
Walunglua's body was later handed over to family members after post mortem examination was conducted at JNIMS morgue.
On the other hand, Tengnoupal police have taken up case regarding the incident.
