Man awaiting to tie nuptial knot stabbed to death

Imphal, August 22 2015 :
A young man whose date of marriage has been already fixed was stabbed to death near Lilong bridge along Imphal-Moreh highway last night.
One suspected murderer was rounded up by local people and handed over to police.
Konthoujam Sanjoy (25) s/o Joy of Arapti Lilong Mapal Thongkhong was found soak-ed in blood on a foot path to the North East of Lilong bridge at around 8 pm yesterday.
Wounds made by a sharp object were seen on the right side of Sanjoy's abdomen and head.
Some passers-by came across Sanjoy.
Soon a large crowd gathered at the spot.
On searching the nearby areas, one unidentified person was found wrestling with some persons.
First it was thought that Sanjoy was knocked down by a speeding vehicle.
But on questioning the unidentified person, he confessed that he and another guy stabbed Sanjoy.
He also disclosed that his accomplice had already fled away.
The youth rounded up by the local people has been identified as Haobijam Athouba Meitei (23) s/o Ahemba of Thanga Karang Maning Leikai.
His accomplice belongs to the same locality and he is one Haobijam Naoba Meitei (23) s/o Jayenta.
According to Athouba, he and Naoba were hired by a man from Thanga to kill Sanjoy.
The man who hired them is currently working in a private company outside the State.
Athouba has been handed over to Singjamei police station.
On searching the crime scene, police recovered a knife.
Incidentally, Sanjoy's marriage has been already fixed on November 23 this year.
Family members suspect that Sanjoy was killed by the mercenaries hired by the man who had a crush on Sanjoy's fiancee.
Meanwhile, a public meeting was held today at Arapti Lilong Mapal Thongkhong and JAC was constituted.
The meeting decided to urge the concerned authorities to pull up and book all the culprits at the earliest.
The meeting resolved not to claim the corpse of Sanjoy until all the murderers are booked apart from launching different modes of agitation.
The corpse has been deposited at RIMS morgue while a case has been registered at Singjamei police station.
