AMADA celebrates 10th B'day

The All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) celebrated its 10th foundation day today at the Seminar hall of IHBT, (Blood Bank), RIMS.
A blood donation camp also marked the foundation day celebration.
Prof (Dr) Ch Arunkumar, Director, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences; M Padmini Leima, president AMADA Mayai Loishang; Prof (Dr) M Amuba, Medical Superintendent, RIMS; Prof (Dr) Gopimohon, Medical Superintendent JNIMS and Prof (Dr) A Meina, Head, IHBT, RIMS attended the function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Delivering the keynote address, Ph Phoni Meetei,, secretary general of AMADA said that drugs worth about Rs 52,12,31,554 were seized by volunteers of the association within the span of ten years.
A total of 9211 illicit drug traffickers as well as drug users were pulled up during the period.
AMADA volunteers also destroyed many poppy plantations in collaboration with personnel of NCB, AR, NAB and villagers.
The association also organised awareness campaigns on green revolution among villagers and distributed crop seeds, he said.
Phoni also observed that a political will is needed to totally stop poppy plantation and manufacturing of heroin in the State.
AMADA secretary further called upon the people to renew the pledge to fight against drugs abuse in order to save the youth from narcotic imperialism.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Ch Arunkumar lauded the efforts of AMADA in spearheading the anti-drug campaign for the last ten years.
Speaking on the harmful impacts of drug abuse, Prof W Gopimohon said that drug addiction is a habit that cannot be stopped or fight with guns.
It depends on the mental attitude of the users.
Children should be sensitised on drug abuse and its impacts when they are in classes V-VI to help curb drug menace in the society, Prof Gopimohon said.
