Imphal, December 20 2014:
Teachers of 16 Government colleges of the State today took out a rally pressing different demands to the Government.
The rally started from Oriental College campus and proceeded towards Chief Minister's Secretariat on NH-37 .
However, police blocked them at Sagolband Ingudam Leirak.
Speaking to reporters, All Manipur College Teachers Association president M Lokendro said that the teachers commenced their stir on November 11 last demanding the Government to immediately cancel appointment of regular Principals of Oriental College, Manipur College and Lilong Haoreibi College.
Other demands included removal of Higher Education Commissioner P Vaiphei, issuance of a fresh notification OM considering local conditions in respect of Recruitment CAS and other service matters and immediate release of due allowances, M Lokendro added.
He said that the teachers held a meeting at Oriental College campus today and resolved to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi by taking out a rally to highlight their demands.
Saying that the teachers have been boycotting the ongoing college examinations as a part of their stir, M Lokendro said that these examinations are being conducted by part-time and guest lecturers.
Although, 6th Pay Commission has been implemented with regard to teachers ' salary since August 2011, they have not been getting the benefits of SCA and TA all these years, he added.
It is questionable why these benefits have not been given to the teachers although the Government has also not issued any order to remove it from their salary till date, he said.
