Media's role important in bringing hills & valley together: Okendro

Media has to play a big role to bring hills and valley together and strengthen the age-old ties, said Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro on Sunday during the observation of Information and Public Relation Day at Directorate of Information and Public Relation (DIPR) Complex.
Attending the function organised by DIPR as Chief Guest, Minister Okendro said that media has to play an important role while shaping the contours of a good society.
Media has been continuously contributing a lot at many fields including the strengthening of ties between different communities.
Okendro further said that the frequent bandhs and blockades in the State have brought enormous hardship to the people and appealed all that issues could be settled through talks so as to avoid resorting to bandhs and blockades.

With the introduction of new technologies, Government is making plans to recruit more staff for the vacant posts in DIPR, said the minister.
On the occasion, Okendro requested the media to cover positive stories and reports.
Attending the function as Guest of Honour, Parliamentary Secretary DIPR, K Meghachandra said that the role of an Information Department is important in a democratic country.
The Government has been trying to widen the reach of the department, said Meghachandra and appealed all to support DIPR in its development activities.
IPR Principal Secretary Letkhogin Haokip, who attended the function as President, called on all to maintain proper documentation of all the records of DIPR.
He also urged the department to preserve precious photographs and appealed all the staff in the department to work without personal interests.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of photography contests, held by DIPR since October 28 last.
DIPR Director Somorjit Salam and Joint Director Dr Johnson also attended the function.
