Villagers boycott Speaker

Chingkhu-Khundrakpam Loukol Kanba Lup has said that people of Khundrakpam and Chingkhu have decided to indefinitely boycott Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker and Khundrakpam AC MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar, Film Forum Manipur and Art and Culture Department for not paying heed to people's voice against Government's plan to set up a film institute/city at Khundrakpam-Chingkhu area.
A decision to this effect was taken in a public meeting held at Khundrakpam Pangalba community hall today, said a statement.
Representatives from AMUCO, ICHAM, MICAN, LOUSAL and Conservation of Paddy Land Protection Committee, Manipur were also present at the meeting organised by Chingkhu-Khundrakpam Loukol Kanba Lup and Northern Students Club, said a statement.
It was also decided in the meeting that no organisation or individual would be allowed to enter Khundrakpam-Chingkhu area regarding setting up of film city.
Anybody who defies the people's resolution must be held responsible for any eventuality, the meeting observed.
Saying that no land would be given to the Government, any land owner who is found giving away land to the Government regarding setting up of film city, must be held responsible for any eventuality.
It was also resolved in the meeting not to give away the reserved forest area protected by Chingkhu Joint Forest Management to the Government.
The people of the area also resolved to take part in all the activities initiated by the apex organisations of the State regarding protection of agricultural land.
