Although Kut festival was primarily confined to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo groups at the beginning, it has now become a common festival for all ethnic communities of Manipur, said the Chief Minister.
The festival has been taking a pivotal role in ensuring peaceful co-existence among different communities of Manipur who speak different languages, follow different religious faiths and have different traditions, Ibobi stated.
The Kut celebration was presided by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, top ranking civil and police officials too attended the celebration.
The gathering also observed silence for two minutes in honour of those people killed in the Churachandpur protest agitation.
Munpi village chief Thongkhohao Haokip was given the title of this year's Kutpa.
This was followed by presentation of hymns and musical items by different Kuki choir groups and artistes.
