Imphal, November 19 2015:
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi on Thursday stated that observation of "Quami Ekta Week" (National Integration Week) will become meaningful only when actions for integration are being taken up.
He was speaking at the "Quami Ekta Week" function organised by Manipur Government at the banquet hall of Manipur Rifles.
Speaking at the function as Chief Guest, O Ibobi said that the Quami Ekta Week has been observed in memory of the sacrifices made by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for the integration of India.
Indira Gandhi left no stone unturned for national integration and even gave positive note to the "Operation Blue Star" conducted to control Khalistan movement in Punjab.
She defeated those who dreamt of a Khalistan and the issue was brought to an end by signing the Punjab Accord.
O Ibobi said Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life only for the cause of integration.
Attending the function as President, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said today's generation should not forget the principles and thinking of the former Prime Minister whose only duty was to sacrifice for the people and for the cause of national integration.
Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, police officers and other civil society organisation leaders who attended the function also took an oath of "Quami Ekta" led by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also organised the Quami Ekta Week at Congress Bhawan, Imphal.
Dignitaries led by Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam paid floral tribute to the photograph of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the observation.
