Bye-Elections: Campaign ends; security arrangement made

As per the notifications of Election Commission of India (ECI), the election campaign for the bye-elections to the Thongju and Thangmeiband A/Cs came to an end on Thursday at 4 pm as people of both the constituencies will cast their votes on November 21.Security and polling personnel who are assigned respective duties will start reaching specified polling stations Friday morning.
For the 5-Thongju A/C, paramilitary forces personnel will be deployed in a total of 45 polling stations from Friday evening onwards.
The polling personnel will reach their stations by Friday morning.
For the 9-Thangmeiband A/C, both paramilitary forces and polling personnel will reached their 41 polling stations by Saturday evening.
Voters will cast their votes from 7 am till 4 pm on November 21 using their electoral photo identity cards.
Voters who had enrolled in the electoral list but failed to get identity cards can use their Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and Bank Passbooks.
Sources said that election campaigns in both the constituencies were at its peak before the last hour.
At least ten paramilitary force personnel will be posted at each of the polling stations and 12 companies of paramilitary forces have already reached Imphal for necessary security arrangement.
Paramilitary forces will be deployed inside the polling station and campuses while state forces will guard the outside part of the polling stations.
It may be mentioned that three candidates in Thongju A/C and another three candidates in Thangmeiband A/C will contest in the November 21 bye-polls.
INC candidate Bijoy Koijam, BJP candidate Th Biswajit and Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF) candidate G Tonsana are in the fray in Thongju A/C while INC candidate Jotin Waikhom, BJP candidate Khumukcham Joykishan and MDPF candidate G Tonsana will contest the Thangmeiband A/C seat.
MDPF candidate G Tonsana is contesting in both the constituencies.
