Quami Ekta Week observed

Quami Ekta (National Integration) Week was observed today at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall.
The day is also celebrated in honour of the first woman Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi on her birthday.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi appealed to the younger generation of the State to preserve and protect National integrity to give meaning to the observance of Quami Ekta Week.
Recalling the contributions of Indira Gandhi to the unity and integrity of the country, he particulary mentioned Operation Blue Star which was launced to bring about unity and integration of India.
For this, she was assassinated by her own body guards, added the Chief Minister.
President of the function, Deputy CM, Gaikhangam remembered her last public speech wherein she said that every single drop of her blood will be used for the cause of India's unity.
As part of the programme, National integration pledge was taken by all the individuals gathered at the banquet hall.
Patriotic songs were presented by Shri Shri Bal Mukunada Dev Govt Music College teachers and students as the opening and closing song.
The function was also attended by the Deputy Speaker, council of Ministers, Chief Secretary, DGP and higher officials of the civil and police.
The event was also observed by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee at Congress Bhavan today.
