Culture important for preserving one's identity: Shanglou

While stressing the importance of culture and traditions, Th Shanglou Maram, SP of Taxes today called for conserving the rich traditions and culture of Maram Community to maintain its identity among the different communities in today's world.
Th Shanglou was speaking as President of the inaugural function of the Njaanghi Festival cum Seminar on Maram Culture jointly organised by Njaanghi Festival Committee and Maram Arts an Literature Association (MALA) in collaboration with Manipur State Archives at Tumuyon Khullen village.
Chief of Tumuyon Khullen village Mareiba and Deputy Director, Manipur State Archives Dr K Sushila graced the function as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
Deputy Director, Manipur State Archives, Dr K Sushila; Naoroibam Indramani and Journalist Nomita Khongbantabam delivered speeches as resource persons.
Dr K Suhila talked on relationships between the hills and valley people, Naoroibam Indramani on ancient relationship between hills and valley people while Nomita Khongbantabam talked on Maram Ningol Ingallei (Makeinei) .
Th Thumbu Maram presented papers on the importance of Njaanghi Festival.
Assistant teacher of Maram High School, K Kalong presented paper on women with bad character.
It may be mentioned that Njaanghi festival is a traditional festival of Maram Community on which fathers and brothers invited their married daughters and sisters for a feast and presented gifts with good wishes thereby maintaining the bond of love between them.
It is a festival which resembles Ningol Chakkouba of the Meeteis.
Guests present during the seminar stressed the need to preserve such cultures which strengthen the love between fathers and daughters, brothers and sisters.
