Corporatisation process of Power Dept starts; SBI Caps to be hired as consultant

With Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who is also holding the Power portfolio, determined to overhaul the pathetic power situation, unbundling and corporatisation process of Power Department has been initiated.
As the first step towards this effect, SBI Caps which is a subsidiary company of the State Bank of India would be hired as a consultant for the unbundling and corporatisation process.
An official source informed that the Chief Minister presided an official meeting this afternoon where Chief Secretary DS Poonia, Principal Secretary (Power) LP Golmei, Power Chief Engineer N Sarat and officials of the Power Grid Corporation of India were present.
The meeting deliberated on the power situation of Manipur and explored all possible remedial measures.
Touched by the repeated requests of some students to give them power and let them compete with students of other States, the Chief Minister concentrated on the issue and is directly orchestrating all the efforts aimed at improving power situation of Manipur, conveyed the official.

The meeting decided to hire Caps as a consultant for unbundling and corporatisation of the Power Department.
During another meeting held yesterday, the Chief Minister directed all Executive Engineers of Power Department to submit lists of their assets ahead of converting the department into a corporation.
Today's meeting further decided to form a joint venture company between Power Department and Power Grid Corporation of India and they would look after intra State transmission after dividing the whole State into two parts.
Ibobi also held another meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Senapati, Tamenglong and Churachandpur and they discussed on expediting the process of obtaining forest clearance for the 400 KV transmission line which would connect Jiribam to Yurembam.
Saying that the forest clearance should be obtained under the Forest Rights Act, the official also conveyed that the Chief Minister instructed the DCs to initiate necessary procedures for obtaining forest clearance for Tipaimukh Project and Loktak Downstream Project.
