Imphal, June 13 2012:
With many literate youths spending their time leisurely without any hope for future due to lack of employment initiatives, Peh villagers have appealed to the state government for taking up developmental projects in the remote hilly areas of the state.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Dedentson Shimray, a villager of Peh village situated under Chingai A/C of Ukhrul district, said that Peh has a total population of 6000 people.
However, the lone Primary Health Sub Centre at the village is manned by a nurse and two helpers.
So, the state government should at least appoint one or two more helpers from among the villagers to provide basic healthcare service to the villagers.
Besides the healthcare services, the government should also pay as much attention in other sectors like education, water supply and other developmental projects.
Government schools should be upgraded from time to time as per the requirement of the people, he pointed out.
Shimray further pointed out that the lone Water Supply Scheme in Peh village was constructed in 1975 and it is not in a working condition today.
Even though the village has plenty of water resources which will be enough to feed five or six surrounding villages, lack of water supply scheme has created a situation of artificial water scarcity in the area.
Moreover, water available in Peh village is said to be little acidic, thus making it unsuitable for drinking purposes without proper treatment.
Yet, the villagers have been using the water without treatment and this has increased the risk of contracting diseases like stomach ulcer and liver disorders.
