Unemploy-ment among educated youths main problem in state: Jagat

The Governor's Best Entrepreneur's Award and the AMEA Outstanding Awards were presented to the Micro, Small Enterprises and Felicitators by Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat during an impressive award presentation ceremony at Hotel Classic here today.
Organised under the joint auspices of All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association, Imphal and Department of Commerce and Industries, the ceremony was presided over by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister for Commerce and Industries.
Speaking on the occasion on as Chief Guest, Governor Gurvachan Jagat pointed out that entrepreneur development is an important key to economic development of a country.
Entrepreneurs not only provide self employment but also provide job opportunities for others.
They are job creators and masters of their own destiny.
The Governor observed that efforts have been made to develop entrepreneurial skills so that sufficient skilled manpower is available in the country to manage the scarce resources by developing cutting edge enterprises.
No state can develop without outstanding contributions by the entrepreneurs who are in reality the captains of the industrial sector.
The Governor noted that unemployment among the educated youths and the resulting sense of frustration is a central problem in the country especially in the Northeast including Manipur where the opportunities are limited.
"It is a fact that Manipur has been experiencing a tantalizing process of evolution largely characterized by supply bottlenecks, bandhs, blockades, lack of professional knowledge, absence of organised disciplined work force and rising temptation of consumerism.
Besides, the limited advantages of both forward and backward linkages have considerably reduced marketing efficiency", he observed.
However, in spite of the many visible odds and limitations, a few entrepreneurs have shown their hidden talents in the form of perceptible scale of production of a few competitive firms, he commented and added, "It should be our sole responsibility to encourage and carry them forward in a new environment and policy support" .
The Governor went on to say that the time has come for the Department of Commerce and Industries to prepare a new roadmap for industrializing Manipur through a sound policy of structured, skill and entrepreneurship development.
Delivering the Presidential speech, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that since the industries in the state have not been able to go along the right path, there is the need to come up with a new policy which could develop industries in the state.
He disclosed that a Timber Park is under the process of construction in the state.
Apart from this, the government is planning to establish a Handloom Park.
Moreover, a Satellite Township in Moreh is also to be established.
The Running Trophy for the Best Entrepreneur's Award 2012 was conferred to Th Joykumar, Proprietor of Thangjam Agro Industries; the AMEA Outstanding Award for Best Women Entrepreneur to Mangsabam Ongbi Membi, Secretary of MS Kongpal Liethong Lairembi Weavers Co-operative Society Limited; the Best award for Marketing to Th Rakesh, Proprietor of MS Kangleipak Spice Industries and the AMEA Outstanding Award for Best Facilitator to Sanasam Radhadamudor, Officer on Duty, Commerce and Industries, on the occasion.
