Campaign on 16-days activismon VAW held

An international campaign on ' 16-days activism on violence against women' was held today at the public ground opposite Thoubal Wangbal community hall under the aegis of Women in Governance (WinG), Thoubal on the theme 'From peace in the home to peace in the world, let's challenge militarism and end violence against women' .
MLA O Landhoni, Khangabok A/C, Deputy Commissioner T Ranjit, Thoubal Zilla Parishad and District and Session Judge Salam Imocha attended today's campaign.
The event observed two minutes silence in solidarity with every women facing various kinds of difficulties across the globe.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare, police department and other civil organisations spoke on the various crimes against women.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA O Landhoni said men take advantage of the fact that women tend to bear much difficulties that falls upon them without complaints.
District and session Judge S Imocha during his speech said women face oppression historically and culturally in our society.
The status of women, according to him, would hopefully change for the better in the years to come through proper education and sensitisation.
Delivering the keynote address of today's campaign, Women in Governance convenor, Nonibala Narengbam urged women to fight for justice and for their rights.
