Demanding removal of three regular college principals who were appointed against the Recruitment Rules of UGC at the earliest, All Manipur Government College Teachers' Association (AMGCTA) staged a sit-in-protest in front of DM College of Arts, Imphal West today.
Speaking to newspersons on sidelines of the protest, K Indramani, general secretary of AMGCTA warned of launching series of agitation in case the three regular college principals are not removed at the earliest.
He demanded the Higher Education Department to reveal identity of the three principals who were appointed by the department in defiance of the Recruitment Rules of UGC publicly and appoint competent ones in place of them.
Saying that government teachers in all the 28 States of the country are ensured with allowance, TA and 6th Pay Commission but teachers here in the State are deprived of even basic incentives, he lamented that the ruling government has so far not provided increment facility under ROP of the Central Government to college teachers in the State.
Withdrawal of GPF funds for college teachers takes 2-3 years unlike in other States.
The government should follow suit adopted in other States for welfare of college teachers, he pointed out.
Stating the government should address plights of college teachers who are working under unfavorable conditions, he further demanded the government to increase GPF amount for college teachers in the State.
