Differently-abled applicant cries foul

The office of Employment Exchange, Lamphelpat allegedly deprived a differently-abled person from getting the chance of being interviewed for the post of an artist in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), by not sending the employment exchange card to RIMS in time.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Konthoujam Micheal, the differently abled person whose chances of facing the interview of the post was deprived of due to alleged negligence of the office of Employment Exchange, said that he has been living with both his legs having amputated after a bomb blast on December 16, 2007.He is a painter by profession and is still going on with his profession.
Micheal informed that he had applied for the post of an artist required in RIMS after an advertisement came out in the newspaper.
To face the interview, he had submitted his Employment Exchange card to the office of the Employment Exchange at Lamphelpat in January this year.
When he went to enquire about the date of interview, the staffs in the Employment Exchange office told him that his Employment Exchange card would be sent to RIMS and the date of interview will be announced very soon, he added.
However, when the date of interview was announced by RIMS on April 29 last fixing May 8 as the day, his name was not there in the list of the candidates to be interviewed as the Employment Exchange office had not sent his Employment Exchange card and other necessary documents.
Later when he went to the Employment Exchange to enquire over the mater, he was informed that since the post of the artist in RIMS was meant for general category and not for People with Disabilities (PWD), his card was not sent.
