Delhi Police unhappy with Manipur Govt

In an apparent uneasiness with the laissez-faire conduct to its approach, Delhi police on Thursday expressed its unhappiness with Manipur Bhavan, or the Government of Manipur over crimes against Northeast people, specially from Manipur in the national capital.
In an interaction programme held at Arunachal Bhavan here on how to reduce crimes and sexual harassment against the Northeast people residing in Delhi with students' leaders, NGOs and Delhi Police; Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Police and Chief Coordinator for NE Students & Employees in Delhi, disclosed that maximum level of sexual harassments and complaints came from the Northeast people, specially from the people of Manipur.
And to give a fair justice to the people in the least times, Delhi Police started a programme that included organising series of counselling sessions and proper-guidance to the people of region.
For this reason, he further said, Delhi police had requested all the Bhavans of the Northeast in Delhi, through its Resident Commissioners to send a nodal officer in the training programme "to have a better ideas on the steps being taken by the Delhi police for the safety and security of the Northeast citizens living in Delhi" .
However, while all the Bhavans from the region have sent their officers, not a single person or nodal officer from Manipur has come forward so far, he lamented.
The Police officer further mentioned that while the maximum crimes were occurred with the Manipur students, the State Government had never responded to its request to help them out which was very sad and added that he had sent letters and had personally called up with the Bhavan, yet not a single officer had willingly response to the call.
Meanwhile, an officer in special duty at Manipur Bhavan told this correspondent that he had no knowledge about the nodal officer and letters being sent to the office by Delhi police, though he knew about incidents and crimes against the Manipur citizens in Delhi.
He said the former Deputy Resident Commissioner was dealing with the police in such cases, however, she also was recently transferred.
He further informed that there was not a dedicated Resident Commissioner in Delhi's Manipur Bhavan at present as the same officer was sitting in Imphal handling two/three departments.
On the other hand, students' communities from Manipur on Thursday expressed their strong displeasure with the apathetic attitude of the Manipur Government towards its citizens and students in Delhi.
A student leader, while talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, said many students had tried to meet Chief Minister Okram Ibobi when he came to the capital, but had never succeeded.
The student leader further claimed that even the security guard of the CM had insulted them and thrown them out of the gate of the Bhavan.
Shyam Khampo, a pastor from Churachandpur, who is now residing in Delhi, lamented that whenever he came to Manipur Bhavan even a receptionist could not speak Manipuri and always found difficulties in talking with them.
Shanto Iralu, president of Naga Students Union, Delhi, said the present initiatives being taken up by the Delhi police was first highlighted by Nikhil Kumar, then former Governor of Nagaland, when the student's community approached him to have an audience in the prevailing crimes against Northeast students in Delhi in June 27, last year.
