Imphal, May 02 2013:
Lunghar Village Authority, Ukhrul has alleged atrocities by NSCN (IM) members against 76-year old Wungreingai, headman of Mapum village on April 23.A statement issued by the headman of the village authority LW Shimreingam claimed that Wungreingai was abducted and brutally assaulted by two NSCN (IM) personnel at the office of the outfit's Central Administrative Officer, Wung Tangkhul Region.
Decrying the assault as unlawful and unjustifiable, and opining that the thrashing might be a fallout of Wungreingai deposing before the Court of Civil Judge (Sr Division) No.11, Manipur (Lamphelpat) on March 16 as a witness in a land dispute case, the statement clarified that the Mapum village headman attended the court as one of the key witnesses to provide historical facts and evidences in the land dispute case between Lunghar and Sihai villages.
Further informing that Mapum village shares boundaries with the said villages in dispute, the statement also contended that members of the rebel outfit forced Wungreingai to sign on drafted papers in both English and Tangkhul dialects which nullify his witness statement in the said case.
The same drafts were published in the Aja newspaper on April 26 and The Sangai Express in the latter's May 1 publication, maintained the Lunghar Village Authority headman who also termed the assault on the elderly man and terror tactics of 'silencing the truth' as moribund and sub-standard for a reputed organisation like the NSCN (IM) which has international support and recognition.
In a similar manner, headman of Nungbi Khullen village AS Shaingam was also stopped by some NSCN (IM) personnel from attending the court as witness in the same land dispute case, conveyed that statement adding that Shaingam was summoned to the outfit's CEO Wung Tangkhul Region office on January 25 and forced to sign that he would not attend the court.
Strongly condemning alleged excesses committed by activists of the rebel outfit, the statement declared that Lunghar village will solicit positive approach and suggestion from not only the NSCN (IM) but from any competent organisation towards early and lasting settlement to the land dispute case.
