Imphal, May 02 2013:
Two remote controlled IEDs weighing 6.5 kg each were destroyed in situ by a bomb disposal squad at around 9 am on May 1.The IEDs were recovered by 16 AR of 10 Sector near Seijang on NH-202 at 6.30 pm of April 30, informed a PRO IGAR (S) statement.
Acting on a hard intelligence received from sources, a party from YKPI COB was launched on April 30.The party saw two individuals moving in a suspicious manner near Seijang at about 6.30 pm, said the PRO.
The AR team reportedly challenged the individuals who tried to flee the site but were caught.
With search of the area leading to recovery of a blue bag which contained the IEDs, the area was cordoned off during the night and the IEDs defused by a bomb disposal squad in the morning of May 1, detailed the statement which identified the individuals as RK Mangisan (47) and H Hemanta (33), both residents of Sabungkhok Mayal Leikai of Imphal East district.

Meanwhile, villagers and Meira Paibis gathered outside the YKPI COB to get the individuals released.
Assam Rifles' officers interacted with the villagers and apprised them of the real situation.
The locals left the COB satisfied when they were informed that the individuals had confessed to their crime.
It has been revealed that the IED was placed to specifically target the security forces.
The precise operation clubbed with hard intelligence is a setback to the armed outfits that have now resorted to target security forces hiding instead of confronting face to face.
The armed outfits have also been targeting innocent civilians and official whom they have served extortion notes and threats.
The spurt in IED incidents are a clear indicator of lack of motivation or cause of the outfits who have now been subdued by the persistent operations by Assam Rifles.
It is noteworthy that IGAR (South) has achieved a major breakthrough in bringing several armed outfits under peace process.
This cowardly act is a lame attempt by the outfits to derail the peace process and ensuing peace in the state of Manipur.
However, the last ditch effort to keep the armed campaign alive in Manipur will be fought with tenacity by the Assam Rifles, affirmed the PRO statement.
The IED recovery came on the heels of the firing incident on MK Preshow, MLA Chingai April 30 afternoon near Ukhrul.
The jittery attacker fired shot two rounds aimlessly and ran away from the site due to the domination of Assam Rifles in the area, further claimed the statement.
